UNFINISHED BUSINESS N/A NEW BUSINESS N/A INFORMATION COVID Information update by the Executive Team: The executive team has been meeting a minimum of twice a week in response to the ongoing COVID situation and directives. The Executive team was tasked by the governor to come up with scenarios on how to reduce the budget. The governor asked for scenarios of 6%, 10%, and 14% budget reductions from all state agencies. Over 90% of the GBC budget is in personnel, it was vital to the Executive Team that there were no lay offs and that they would be able to hire certain open positions. Furloughs and student fee increases have been put into the worst-case scenarios of the 10% and 14% budget cuts. The governor has not approved the proposals yet. Amber Donnelli: Health Sciences graduated the paramedic group and 27 nursing students early. There are also 29 BSN students graduating, 3 of which will be in New York aiding in the hospitals. Bret Murphy: Some of the technical programs were able to get the hands-on experience with students, but many of the programs will need to return and finish when the lockdown is over. There are 68 MTC scholarships awarded this year. Mary Doucette: Accuplacer testing went down, but Ping was able to place the tests online for Math. Criminal Justice has scholarship money to use for students. English, Math, and Education interviews are in process. The Dual Enrollment General Education Certificate was approved by the Board of Regents and will roll out in the fall. Nevada Faculty Alliance: Kent Irvin The NFA is the affiliate organization in Nevada with the American Association of University Professors. The NFA promotes shared governance, academic freedom, protects the rights of faculty, and works to provide a voice for faculty and higher education at the legislature, with the regents, and other governmental bodies that pertain to them. Particularly around faculty salary and benefits. The NFA also provides legal service and guidance in employment related matters. John Nolan briefly spoke on the NFAs legal defense services available to faculty that are members of the NFA. Scott Huber gave presentation on collective bargaining, using TMCC as an example. Kent Irvin reviewed a survey done at GBC in early March. The full presentation and survey are available in the Faculty Senate meeting packet.
