The Executive Committee has asked Frank to research this funding formula. The Chancellor is pushing the performance metric for our funding. Currently, GBC is funded by the number of students enrolled and this new metric looks at funding on students that complete courses. Other states have done this and have already started to back out of it. Frank has presented Chair Negrete with a report, and she is hoping to share Franks information with the faculty, soon. Proposed Faculty Senate time change, 9:30 am vs. 1:15 pm. Laurie Walsh made a motion to change the time of Senate, Cindy Hyslop seconded the motion to change the time of Senate to 9:30 am. On the agenda will be the rules for open meeting laws and looking at criteria for the job description that was used in the previous presidential search. There are two other tentative dates for the committee to meet on the 11th and 13th of January. Chair Negrete informed the Senate that we need another adjunct representative. She asked the Senate if they had anyone in mind to nominate. There were none. She asked departments to talk with their adjuncts to see if anyone is interested. This will be brought up again at the next Senate meeting. Formation of an ad hoc general education committee. Written/Verbal Report Angie deBraga reported that things have been going well for I.C.E. Last night was the conclusion of the second art show for the semester. The student art show will be up next week. The committee is beginning work on the 2012 Argentum. Lora Minter has agreed to be the coordinator. Tim Beasley has also been doing work on the website. The I.C.E. committee has proposed opening Argentum to the community at large, as well as students and faculty. Angie asked for comments from the Senate as to how they feel about the proposal. Jeannie Rosenthal talked about Argentum and that when she is applying for grants, especially pertaining to arts, a lot of comments she receives are why this isnt open to everyone. Its possible that we could be losing out on money from grants because it are not open to the entire community. Opening Argentum to the community may help in this situation. The current Argentum process is a blind selection from a jury who is familiar with art and writing. The jury does not know who is submitting work, only that the person is a faculty member or a student. The committee is asking for a sense of the Senate about opening Argentum up to the community. Teresa Howell commented that it would increase visibility to have it out in the public. She also voiced a concern about having to make more copies to distribute to the public and where that funding would come from. Angie reported that the committee is exploring the possibility of having CDs available and putting Argentum on the website for public access. The public museum archives the Argentum, as does our library. Since GBC is a community college, the committee feels that it is important to open it to the community. Jan King wanted to make sure that the students are included in the Argentum. Angie mentioned that it will be students first. She also talked about using a formula or a percentage of work. Lynn Owens mentioned that the Argentum is just now coming back again and so the pool is small. Opening it up to the community would provide a larger pool. It hasnt been determined what percent is students work. Russ Orr asked whether it would be limited to amateur or professional. In general, it is asked that work previously published not be submitted. Chair Negrete asked for a sense of the Senate. The sense of the Senate is for the committee to open the submission process of the Argentum to the community.
