Co- chairs and Deans Chair Negrete reviewed an item that was discussed at Executive Committee Meeting last Friday. Several departments have co-chairs and when an item requires a vote, there is a question of whether that department would have two votes. The Executive Committee agreed that there would only be one vote for the department, in the event of a roll call vote. The Dean would also not vote, but this may need an ex-officio status and would have to go through bylaws and written into policy. Chair Negrete thanked President Diekhans for the snacks at Senate today. School Colors Action Item The result of this vote will go to President Diekhans as a recommendation from the Senate. Chair Negrete reminded the Senate that they are voting on school colors of sage green and gold or forest green and gold. Rich Barton made a motion to accept the current colors, sage green and gold, Pat Anderson 2nd. One member was opposed. There were four abstentions. Motion passes. committee reports Academic Standards No Report Adjunct Faculty No Report Assessment No Report Budget & Facilities No Report Bylaws No Report Compensation & Benefits Written Report/ACTION ITEM Frank announced to the Senate that there is enough additional money to increase the overload rate from $700.00 per credit to $750.00 per credit. There were five abstentions. Motion passes. Chair Negrete will inform VPAA McFarlane of the vote. Chair Negrete pointed out that in the committees written report the item regarding increasing two administrators salaries that was brought to the committee for discussion by President Diekhans has been removed. Pat also brought forward two draft procedures to be added to the GBC Emergency Program under the Clery Act. The first draft outlines what to do about a student with a weapon. This procedure has been reviewed by local police chief Zumwalt and he has advised GBC on how law enforcement will respond in the event of an incident. Richard Barton made a motion to approve the new addition, Heather Steel 2nd. No one opposed, no abstentions, motion carries. The second draft outlines a timely warning notice, also required under the Clery Act. Pat has worked with John Albrecht and Lynn Mahlberg on this section. VPAA McFarlane then talked about the budget and that it is looking grim. President Diekhans and Sonja Sibert arrived home from Carson City last night, and President Diekhans will be sending out information soon.
