It was discussed that the purpose of this committee is to advise the child center in areas that need improvement or where the staff has questions. Program updates and highlights were given including: Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS)-Discussed how the child center is currently a 5 star rating and that we have completed our 18 months of maintenance. We will be reassessed using the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS) sometime in May. We will then receive a star rating, our hope is to maintain the 5 star. We also discussed that Carlin received their ECERS pre-assessment in March. Their total score was 4.49, one of the highest pre-assessment scores in Nevada. Technical Assistance Center for Social Emotional Inventory (TACSEI)-We discussed that this is the social/emotional curriculum that we have adopted. Our external coach, Arielle explained that demonstration status means that a site or individual classroom demonstrates fidelity on the Teaching Pyramid Observation Tool (TPOT). Our goal is to achieve demonstration by May 2017 in at least one of our classrooms, if not more. Arielle felt that we were headed in that direction in at least one classroom. Our internal coach updated us on data collection results. We were given numbers of Behavior Incident Reports (BIR) we have had this year. The data shows that BIRs have decreased by 50% since September which means that our strategies are helping children to improve in their social skills. Enrollment status was reported-All classrooms are full for next year with children on the waiting list for each class. We discussed that our State Pre-K grant is up for renewal this year and the funders are pushing for us to apply for braided funding. This braided funding would include State Pre-K and Nevada Ready Preschool Development Grant funds. The federal government and the state believe that full day preschool has a huge effect on kindergarten readiness and are therefore phases out part time programs. It was decided that we will move forward with applying for the braided funding and have a full day class for those who qualify for this funding.
