Department Chairs Witten Report Distance Education Written, Action Bob Hannu presented the Basic Guidelines for Online Courses. Lisa Frazier gave some history on the topic. She discussed that with the financial aid audit last spring, auditors wanted copies of every document from five courses. They also wanted a distance education presentation. The auditors wanted to see substantial interaction evidence in the courses. An online course policy was put together and presented with the hope that it would be approved through Faculty Senate. The auditors accepted the document. Lisa passed out a document to the Senate that shows the NSHE policy. Oscar Sida asked what the expectations are from the regulatory bodies. Oscar feels that if we develop standards then GBC needs to know what we are being measured against. Scott Gavorsky would like GBC to contact NSHE attorneys and our accrediting body. Scott feels that financial aid operatives should not affect how faculty teach courses. Bob mentioned that these are guidelines. The document needs to be voted on and then it can be adjusted from there. This may not be the last document. Brandy Nielsen asked about 1a under the Training and Review section. Lisa asked to amend the document and remove 1a. Laura Pike moved to approve the document with the amendment of removing 1a under the Training and Review section. Scott Gavorsky seconded.
