It was discussed that the committee will meet 3 times per year and that our purpose is to advise the child center in areas that need improvement or where the staff has questions. Program updates and highlights were given including: Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS)-Discussed how the child center is currently a 5 star rating and that we have completed our 18 months of maintenance. We will be reassessed using the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS) sometime between January and May. We will then receive a star rating, our hope is to maintain the 5 star. We also discussed that Carlin has been on a waiting list for initial assessment and coaching since January and we have made contact with the assessors to determine how much longer we will wait. Technical Assistance Center for Social Emotional Inventory (TACSEI)-We discussed that this is the social/emotional curriculum that we have adopted. Our external coach explained that demonstration status means that a site or individual classroom demonstrates fidelity on the Teaching Pyramid Observation Tool (TPOT). Our goal is to achieve demonstration by May 2017 in at least one of our classrooms, if not more. Our internal coach updated us on data collection results. We were given numbers of Behavior Incident Reports (BIR) we have had this year. The data shows that BIRs have gone down in each class meaning that our strategies are helping children to improve in their social skills. We shared our new challenging behavior steps and crisis plan that the TACSEI lead team created. The only suggestion was to have an administrator nearby when a child is in a crisis situation for protection of the lead teacher. There was a lot of discussion around an expulsion plan. Currently our parent handbook has a statement about challenging behavior but it was decided that we need a more concrete statement about what services we provide and what are behavior plans entail. We will research expulsion plans and create one at our next meeting. Enrollment status was reported-the majority of our classrooms are close to full with only a few slots available throughout the center. Most of the vacancies will be filled in January by children on the wait list. Our full day program seems to be the hardest to fill. We discussed that Carlin has Nevada Ready Preschool Development Grant funds through a partnership with the local Charter School. Also, we have to reapply for our State Pre-K Grant in 2017. The State Pre-K Director has stated that facilities willing to braid funding from the above two sources will have first priority. We are currently looking to see if we can accommodate both funding sources and how that will look at our center in Elko and our site in Carlin. The Center has a new Parent Representative Committee that will focus on supporting teachers and finding ways to reach parents to get them center information. We have one parent representative from the parent committee that sits on the advisory committee. We are working with the JOIN Program to offer work experience for individuals working in the early childhood field. JOIN will pay salaries and benefits for these individuals as well as, offer them college tuition assistance.
