Daniel Murphree seconded. Motion passed unanimously. GUEST/PUBLIC COMMENT senate chair report Information/Possible Action BOR Meeting- Faculty were sent updates from the meeting. Pahrump land acquisition was finalized by the board. Service areas borders were eliminated. It is assumed to be effective immediately but John will double check. John sent out a memo from the council of senate chairs on the position of the chancellor on the ad hoc committee. The board chair has created an ad hoc committee in compliance with the code. The ad hoc committee itself remains the same as when it was announced. GBC is represented by Matt McCarty. The code requires that all student government officials, presidents and senate chairs will be brought in at the end of the process to consult. The main concern was not the makeup of the committee but the chair of the BOR was complying with system code. Draft of Intellectual Property Policy- John hopes that faculty reviews this document and sends him comments. John would like to discuss comments with council of chairs. John will need comments back by the first week of October. Revisions must be submitted by mid-October. Bylaws Committee- It is in the best interest of the senate to deactivate the bylaws committee for this year. There is not enough time to do what needs to be done. And there is nothing terrible pressing. Motion made by Kevin Hodur, seconded by Scott Gavorsky, No abstentions, motion passes. COMMITTEE REPORTS Academic Standards Written, Verbal, Action Jan King explained that ITT Tech has closed down and GBC is trying to help the stranded students. ITT Tech is not regionally accredited but GBC is trying out a pilot program to offer nontraditional credit and challenge exams. Jan explained that the nontraditional credit cannot be applied to transfer degrees (AA/AS). Lisa Fraizer and the business department have developed a pathway for the ITT Tech students. Lisa has pulled the syllabi for each applicable ITT course. The classes seem to have the appropriate rigor but we will not know until the students are at GBC. Jan is asking from the senate for an approval of the overall plan rather than being required to bring each course to the Academic Standards committee. We will have a cap on 20 students for the 8 week courses offered in the second half of the semester and will reevaluate after. Motion made by Justine Stout, Scott Gavorsky seconded, no abstentions, motion passes. Part-time Instructors No Report Assessment Written, Verbal Jonathan Foster announced that Cathy Fulkerson has arranged for GBC faculty to take part in a national faculty survey of assessment culture. Cathy will be sending out an email on Monday with instructions and link for the survey. It is voluntary and anonymous. The data should allow GBC to see where it stands in comparison to other institutions. This will also allow the assessment committee to learn how to effectively communicate assessment procedures to faculty.
