GGGG  W,= Gw0 GhGhGhG0GG h|> : ACE MINUTES 9/6/16 Present: Frank Sawyer, Patty Fox, Justine Stout, Mica Johnson, Christa Oeschger (GBC Gear Up Coordinator), Mardell Wilkens, Angie de Braga, and Karen Kimber. Frank presented the agenda as Michael Bail was ill. The committee discussed upcoming events for 2016-17 including GBC Art Gallery shows and receptions, humanities speakers, film festival, and concerts. We also talked about the challenge of getting students to the ACE events and asked everyone to think of ways to promote events and get the word out in the community. Karen has organized a calendar and asked everyone to send her their updates that she will email to Michael and the rest of the committee. GBC has many events happening in October such as the Father Daughter Ball, the first theater production, and hopefully Black and White movie night if Kevin Hodur is still interested in organizing it. ACE originally planned to have a TED Talks event, but the committee felt there was not sufficient time to present it in October. We would like to have the TED Live event in spring. Everyone was asked to think of faculty members who could make intriguing presentations. Last years presenters were exceptional. Elko as a whole is a busy place in October. It was noted there are several upcoming events including theater productions by Ghost Light and other groups, High School Homecoming Football games, the DBA Wine Walk, the Downtown Ghost Tour by Jan Petersen, Poe and Pints at the DLC Oct. 13, 14, 15, and the Community Concert. The committee likes the idea of GBC having a float in the Nevada Day parade, but suggested Michael speak to the SGA President, Chelsey Fox and possibly approach the SOLAR members to find out if the student government and clubs would like to build the float and man it. It was also suggested that the Foundation might want to be involved with the float as they are wanting to get the word out about the GBC Alumni Association. If a float is built, ACE would like to provide flyers to be handed out in the parade. We like the idea of promoting our events on digital reader boards and also talked about the possibility of GBC upgrading its theater projector which would greatly enhance our film festival. Justine relayed that the film committee will be meeting this fall to start planning the films and festival. They are hoping to screen more Oscar shorts and work with the Duncan Little Creek Gallery on an event there as it was popular last year.
