Last summer the Nevada State Board of Nursing had contracted with a company called Head Master from Helena Montana to provide testing in several locations throughout the state. There were some challenges early on with the different testing format. But we have seen steady improvement of the test score throughout the state, including here in Elko. Head Master has held several training workshops in the Reno and Las Vegas areas. We are excited that Head Master will be coming to Elko to offer this training closer to home for our instructors. We have recruited a few more instructors who will be offer their first course this summer here in the Elko area. We are continuing to recruit for instructors in the outlying areas. As A follow up to last semesters report, our online hybrid classes have been very successful. Both students and instructors are highly satisfied with this format. Our campuses in Elko, Winnemucca and Pahrump continue to see steady enrollment as evidenced by the projections above. Battle Mountain held a class last fall. There are none scheduled for spring or summer. Lovelock has 4 students currently. This class is part of the online hybrid with a clinical/skills instructor in Lovelock so the students dont have to travel. Ely has not held a class for some time. We have been actively searching in this area for another instructor. Ĵý EMS Program Report Spring 2016 David Ellis, EMS Program Manager GBC has offered EMS classes at the following locations in the Spring term 2016 Spring 2016 Elko EMT 10 Students Pahrump EMT 9 Students Elko AEMT 15 Students Hybrid Paramedic Class 12 Students NRP to AAS-Paramedic Degree 3 Students Program Notes We are excited to announce our first graduating class of National Registered Paramedics (NRP) to the AAS-Paramedic degree this spring. These students have completed all general education studies in addition to their paramedic training which was done at various institutions prior to enrolling. The inaugural paramedic class is nearing the end of its first year. We presently have 12 students in good standing. One student was removed for academic reasons in the spring term. We are preparing for clinical rotations that will begin this summer at the following hospitals: Renown, NNRH, Desert View, St. Rose, and Humboldt General. We are now receiving applications for our second paramedic class. These applications are due June 15, 2016. This spring we began to offer EMT classes at our Pahrump campus for the first time. This has been a success and we looking forward to adding fall EMT classes and spring AEMT classes in the future as part of yearly course offerings in Pahrump. In Elko and Winnemucca, we plan to continue to offer hybrid EMT courses in the fall, and hybrid AEMT courses in the spring. Ĵý Radiology Program Report Spring 2016 Mary Doucette, Radiology Program Manager Program Notes As of January, the radiology program has been operating with one instructor Cherie Jaques has moved to Oregon to be with family. The Radiology Instructor/Clinical Coordinator position has been advertised and we had six good candidates. The hiring committee reviewed all the applicants and moved 3 forward for an interview. One applicant turned down the interview and the other two have been scheduled. While we will miss Ms. Jaques, we are excited for both of these applicants. Currently, we have 9 second years who will graduate and 10 first years. Clinical Site visits went very well. The second year students are studying for boards and 5 of them have possible job offers throughout Nevada. Some are also going on for their BS degree. The Nevada Society of Radiology Technologists will be holding the state convention here on April 29 and 30th with the first student bowl. We are very excited for this opportunity, along with hosting a American Society of Radiologic Technologist speaker. We have received some great donations from our community to sponsor the NvSRT program along with GBC allowing us to host the meeting here. In February, 17 students went to the Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology (ACERT). The students and RAD Group are very excited for this opportunity and to raise funds for next year conferences they are having a 50/50 raffle. $1 per ticket, 6 for $5 and an arm length for $10. The drawing will be held on April 30th at the NvSRT meeting. At the ACERT meeting our student, Nadia Louhichi won the poster contest. This is a first for the State of Nevada. Nadia has also been very involved in the NvSRT and was selected to attend the national ASRT Leadership Development program along with a radiology student from UNLV this year in June. Nadia has been a stellar student and a great representative for GBC. The radiology program received a $250,000 grant for remodel of the radiology lab with new digital equipment. We have received three bids for the equipment and will be meeting to consider which one we want to purchase, hopefully next week. The intent is to start de-install of the current equipment on May 16 and have the room and equipment up and running by September 1st. The new lab will allow the students to be able to perform images on phantoms and skeletons, as well as, conduct other physics experiments. Our pinning ceremony will be held May 19th at 12:30 p.m. in the Solarium. The program would like to thank Dean Donnelli for all her support in these change processes and the grant. The AAS of Radiology Technology is very excited by the progression in the program, by our students being recognized nationally, the addition of the new lab, and a new instructor. Ĵý AAS and RN-BSN Nursing Program Report Spring 2016 Amber Donnelli, Dean of Health Sciences and Human Services This May we will have 27 BSN students graduate this is the largest graduating group thus far at GBC. Five of our former BSN graduates were accepted into graduate school for Fall 2016. Sixteen students will be graduating from our AAS Nursing program in May. Next year, the nursing program will graduate the first cohorts from Pahrump and Winnemucca and the number of graduates is anticipated to be 26. Applications for the AAS Nursing program are being reviewed for the fall semester. We have received more applications in Winnemucca than we have space for. The department is working on growing the Pahrump area. An open house was recently held, in Pahrump, with a good turn out from the community. In March the AAS nursing program received word from ACEN the accreditation body for the nursing programs that the program was awarded full accreditation until 2019. This the result of hard work by all nursing faculty and support staff that assisted on the site visit last November for the substantive change that included the additional sites in Winnemucca and Pahrump. The AAS nursing program and BSN pinning ceremony will be held on Friday, May 20th, at 5 pm, in the GBC Theatre. Graduation will be held on Saturday, May 21st, at 10 am, at the Elko Convention Center. Ĵý Human Services Program Report Spring 2016 Oscar Sida, Human Services Program Manager Oscar Sida has been hired as the new Human Services Supervisor. Mr. Sida will begin in the fall and will be working on transforming the current associate degree into a bachelors degree. By adding a bachelors degree students would be able to get Nevada certifications that would allow them to enter a field of counseling services. We currently have 74 students that have declared the AAS in Human Services degree. Human Services will have 7 graduates this year. <=p 6 W?
