Guests present: Michael Bail and Kevin Hodur Mica Johnson reported the Argentum/Student Art Show opening reception was extremely well attended. There were 75-90 people in attendance and Patty Fox commented it may be the best attended thus far. Mica is considering changing the time of the opening reception to accommodate work schedules for the participants to 5:00 to 7:00 PM and it was suggested possibly 4:30 to 7:00 PM would work best. From August 22 to November 4, Anne Hoff, Drawing Printmaking and Bobbie Ann Howell, Papercutting will be showcased in the GBC Art Gallery Exhibit. On Saturday, November 5, Anne Hoff and Bobbie Anne Howell will hold an artists workshop on the GBC Elko campus. Mica also applied for a grant to have a Basque Rubbing Exhibit in the gallery. Angie is going to send Mica some information with the Virtual Humanities Center as they have been working on Basque projects as well. For the next Student Art Show, Mica is looking to approach the welding students and the Veterans Resource Center as they provide an art therapy class. Mica announced that Saturday, May 14th would be the ArtWalk downtown. From 3-6 PM it is family friendly projects and over 21 years of age activities from 6-9 PM. It is free and is being held in memory of Sarah Sweetwater. Michael Bail is looking to collaborate with the Elko County Fair. He will be meeting with Bailey Billington, Elko County Fair representative about coordinating entries for the fair with GBC students and possibly more breadth in the areas of what is considered art at the fair. Patty Fox suggested possibly awarding the top 5 winners of certain categories the opportunity to submit to the Argentum. Once Michael meets with representatives from the Fair Board, he will inform the committee of the results and the ACE Committee has agreed about possibly meeting over the summer. Angie de Braga informed the committee that Lisa Frasier had suggested GBC floats in parades. The committee brainstormed about having student groups involved in float making etc. This is a great way to have students participate in the community. Angie was going to discuss this idea further with Dr. Curtis and Kayla McCarson in marketing. Justine Stout reported that the first Live TED talks went very well. Participants were very impressed with how engaged the audience was during the Q& A portion of each talk. Justine is interested in doing it again with faculty and possibly experts in certain fields from the community. Kevin Hodur suggested we may want to consider renaming the event. Kevin has also agreed to take over Black and White Movie Night in the future from Stephen Theriault. Angie informed the group about 9 people attended the Status of Women Event where CSN allowed GBC the opportunity to view a presentation done by Barbara Buckley. It was very informative. Toni Milano discussed Argentum and overall everyone was impressed with this years layout and the content from our communities submissions. 56 people entered and she is considering making a first and last call for submissions to hopefully entice more submissions. Toni also gave kudos to Everything Elko for all of their help in the layout and printing of Argentum. Karen Kimber made a tentative schedule of events for the upcoming academic year of 16-17.
