Absent: Kris Dalton, Angie Heguy, Mike McFarlane. Welcome/Expectations & Roles of Advisory Board Each board member introduced themselves to the group. This board will meet twice per year, once in the Fall, and once in the Spring with a possibility of another in between. Program updates and highlights Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) the center participated in the Silver State Stars Quality Rating & Improvement System. This is a voluntary program but may soon be mandatory. The QRIS is a systematic approach to improve and assess the level of quality in child care centers. The Child Center earned 5 stars in June. This is the highest level of stars available and indicates that we are far above quality. The ladies at the Child Center worked very hard to achieve this rating and should be commended for their efforts. Only 3 centers in the state of Nevada have achieved 5 stars. It was suggested that we notify Frank Sawyer about putting our 5 Star rating on our website. We are now in maintenance mode for the next 18 months and are currently without a coach as our former coach is now our Director. Fall Fundraiser/Spring Fundraiser (Amber) Our Fall Aspire catalog sale fundraiser earned us $3829. This was a 40% profit on our sales. There were some delays on getting the products delivered this year. The fundraiser ended mid- October and we didnt receive our products until the first week of December. We had quite a few parents who were unhappy with the delay and so we have been considering alternative fundraisers. A discussion was had on the possibilities of new fundraisers and many ideas were brought to the table. The majority of the concern from parent representatives were that the community is saturated with fundraisers and that they all seem to be at the same time. We decided that we would delay the decision on which fundraiser to use until we get more input from parents. TACSEI Program-Wide Implementation the Child Center has begun to implement TACSEI into our program with the goal of program-wide implementation. Our two year old program is part of a grant from United Way and in that grant, a TACSEI coach is provided. That coach is Arielle Parrish who sits on this board. Enrollment We currently have 4 openings in our 3 year old classes, 3 openings in our 4 year old classes, and 1 opening in our After Care Program. This results in a $15,000 revenue deficit. It was suggested that we advertise in Everything Elko, and issue a press release in Elko Daily Free Press. Contact Kayla McCarson to ask her about this. New Staffing/New Potential Employees Training Program all new staff or potential new staff will follow a new protocol. Before they are granted an interview, they will be asked to observe in the classrooms and fill out a questionnaire. This should help in the turnover ratio for new substitutes. Often times a person will apply for a position, do great in their interview, be offered a position, and then change their mind after entering the classroom. New Full Time Position for 2016-2017 Sarah introduced the idea that she would like to create a new full time position. Our After Care program is not getting continuity of care because the lead teacher is traveling to Carlin 3 out of the 4 afternoons that After Care is in session. She would like to hire a person that teaches only in Carlin on an LOA, and hire a full time position to work the morning pre-k class and After Care. Possibilities that were discussed were to keep the current teacher on her current contract status which is an LOA benefits eligible position. Either option would require a need for funding this position. An increase in tuition of $25 per month per student was suggested. Parents expressed concern that they would essentially be paying extra for the benefit of one classroom and felt that the cost of the teacher should be the burden of those using the after care service. It was explained that teacher salaries are not determined by the amount of revenue their specific class brings in but by overall tuition revenue. Tuition has to cover all staff, including administration and administrative assistants along with supplies, maintenance, training, and travel costs. This discussion was tabled until we could determine what our options are as far as contract options, the amount of additional revenue needed to cover the salary, and what changes we need to make in the tuition rates to cover the costs. Carlin-playgroung; new PT teacher for 2016-2017 the Carlin playground is a concern for us in the many dangers it poses to our students. There is open access to the road and the equipment is not appropriate for the size and age of our students. The property belongs to the ECSD so there is nothing we can do to improve these conditions other than to bring our concerns to the Carlin principal. The new part time teacher was discussed in the previous bullet. The teaching assistant we have in Carlin right now has her Associates degree in Early Childhood Education and if we are able to, we will move her into the lead position next year and attempt to hire a local resident to be her assistant teacher. Handbook adjustment- there will be an amendment to our parent handbooks for the 2016-2017 school year that addresses late pick up fees. The new policy will be that a fee of $3.00/minute, per child, will be assessed. This is necessary because of staffing ratios and to be considerate to our staff who need time to switch over for the next class, to get ready for the next day or to go home to their families. A late notice statement will be completed and added to the next billing statement. The clock in the front office is our time clock. (This needs to be edited to be more clear on when the time starts. Is it one minute after class is over? 5 minutes? The second amendment has to do with the child center being a lab school. We will add the nursing program to the list of possible lab students we will serve. The nursing program comes to the child center and performs developmental screening on our students as a practice lab for the nursing students. They check vision, hearing, height, weight, and BMI. No personal information is collected by the nursing students. Results are written on a form and sent home with the student. The nursing department does not keep a copy of the record of their screenings. Suggestion Box for Parents the issue of a suggestion box has been brought up in the past and a member of our staff has asked that it be addressed. Because of the time, we were unable to discuss and decide on this agenda item.
