In October, 14 GBC students applied to the Teacher Education Program and were accepted to move through the process which includes scoring of several multi-faceted components. These components include GPA, Resume & Letters of Recommendation, Philosophy of Education Paper, Interview, and an impromptu writing sample. These components were scored by subcommittees that met during this time. Once all of the subcommittees met, the scores were compiled and reported to the entire TEC. The TEC as a whole then votes on the acceptance or rejection of applicants. All students accepted met the required composite score. Eleven total students were accepted into the program for the spring 2016 semester. Two of the students were accepted with provisions pending State required testing scores-not a part of the composite score process. Three students were not accepted at this time and met with advisors for a plan of action for the possibility of reapplying in March 2016. Three elementary BA candidates, six secondary post-bac students, and two BA secondary students were accepted into the program. The committee is still waiting on word from the state regarding scholarship monies for teacher education students that is to be awarded some time in November and must be distributed by January. GBC applied for 5 scholarships. If GBC receives any of the scholarships, the Teacher Education Committee will meet again in early December to plan the application process for receiving the scholarship monies.
