Frank Sawyer was working on our webpages during the meeting. Brandy Nielsen was excused. Justine reported on the success of this years GBC Film Festival. Attendance was up over previous years (100 attended the first night, 80 night two, 60 night three, and 60 night four). An overall profit of about $1,700 was achieved, and will go back into the FF account for next years festival. Sally discussed the opening for the One is Silver, the Other is Gold Art Show. Artist, Jack Malotte is unavailable for the opening reception this Thursday, March 5th, but artist, Leah Brady will be invited. Sally had GBC Media Services create 4 x 6 announcements for artist, Jack Malottes Silkscreen Magic presentation April 15 at 4 pm in the GBC Art Gallery. Patty Fox will hand out the cards to her drawing/art students, and ACE members will help get the word out to others on campus and the public to attend. Sally reminded everyone that the deadline for Artwork to be submitted to her for the Spring Student Art Show is April 16. The closing Art Reception, which will also feature Argentum Art Work is May 7th. Karen reported that Toni Milano will photograph artwork from 10 am 12:00 pm, Monday, March 9th for anyone who is planning to submit ceramics, jewelry, or other media to this years creative writing and arts publication, Argentum. The number of entries is down slightly from this time last year, but GBC instructors and Lora have done a good job advertising and promoting Argentum, so hopefully we will get a good number of submissions before the deadline of March 13. The judging panel is in place, and the committee is all set. Justine sent a link to several possible TED Talks and asked the committee to view them and vote on their top three choices for a TED Event sponsored by ACE the second or third Wednesday of April. Justine will check with Dorinda on availability of GTA 130. The committee likes the idea of having a theme of the Pros and Cons of Living in the Internet Age. The Edward Snowden talk could be highlighted followed by a talk showing the pros of the Internets ability to help social causes organize in a quick manner, and the cons of societys loss of privacy. Angie said the Richter Uzur Duo will perform an educational outreach concert for between 100-150 Elko High School students in the GBC Theatre at 2 pm on Thursday, March 5. Robert Hannu, Dave Bailey, and Annie Hicks will webcast the event. Frank Sawyer is posting everything on the ACE, VHC, and GBC websites. At 7 pm, the RU Duo will perform for the general public. Karen and Patty volunteered to help sell tickets and CDs and act as ushers. Angie will introduce the performances and take Brad Richter to NYTC Independence High School for an educational outreach performance for 60 youth and their teachers on Friday morning. Other business: Angie announced the GBC Women of Excellence reception will be Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30 pm and invited everyone to attend. Dr. Curtis will welcome attendees and Executive Vice Chancellor, Catherine Cortez Mastos will provide a webcast lecture, Empowering Women in the 21st Century. On another note, it was suggested that Angie invite Kayla McCarson, GBCs new social media marketing specialist to the next ACE meeting on April 7, at 4 pm.
