PhD, RN, CNE ______________________________________________________________________ Significant Happenings $2 million TAACCCT grant to expand the Associate Degree in Nursing program to include a satellite site in Winnemucca and Pahrump for Fall 2015. Planning and preparation are under way for Fall 2014. Faculty search to fill two nursing faculty positions one for Winnemucca and one for Pahrump. The two-year follow-up report to ACEN was accepted and in August, both the ADN and RN-BSN were given full accreditation and will have a site visit in 2019. We have 59 students in the RN to BSN program and 39 students in the ADN program. Associate Degree in Nursing Program Students: 100% of our May ADN graduates passed NCLEX on the first attempt! The program has had a 100% pass rate on the exam two years in a row. GBC is the only Nevada school currently that has had this distinction. The 2014 national pass rate average is 80.71%. Seventeen ADN students graduated in May and 13 of those students enrolled in the RN-BSN program for fall 2014. Applications for admission to the ADN program for fall 2014 were lower than they have been in the past several years. The 20 qualified applicants accepted in June started their first semester in August. We offered one Early Advisement group session in September that had a good turnout and will offer another one in February to assist students in preparing to apply for the program. Site visits to Pahrump and Winnemucca are planned for November (Pahrump) and December (Winnemucca) for student advisement and an open forum to community health care services. Faculty and Staff: Delene Volkert is now in a temporary faculty position and based in Winnemucca. She is supervising clinical students in the hospital there and teaching online RN-BSN courses. Delene is completing her PhD at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Heidi Johnston is attending Boise State University completing her DNP program. We will find out in late spring if the UNR NIH grant has been awarded. The chances for approval look very good at this time. Staci Warnert accepted a fulltime faculty position on the GBC campus. She worked for GBC in the nursing practice lab position during the previous year. Sarah Lino accepted the CNA/Lab coordinator position with partial funding through outside resources including Perkins. Sarah is completing her DNP at the University of Nevada, Reno. Curriculum Change: The faculty are in the planning stages of how the first year ADN courses will be sent IAV to Winnemucca and Pahrump. Funding for curriculum development and planning are part of the grant funding. Skills/Simulation and Clinical components will take place in the satellite campus area. These changes will require that we complete a substantive change report for change in delivery method of a course, increase in the number of students accepted to the program, and new site location. This report will be sent to ACEN at the end of April for approval of the Fall 2014 start. A site visit from the Nevada State Board of nursing for Winnemucca and Pahrump will take place in March for approval of the additional locations. RN to BSN Program Students: This past Spring we had 15 BSN graduates and anticipate that 20 will graduate next year. We have seen a lot of growth in this program over the last two years. We are currently working with UNR to partner a pathway program that would allow students in the RN-BSN program to complete 2 courses at UNR that will be used as part of their RN-BSN course work but will also count towards one of the five graduate programs that are offered through UNR. Curriculum Change: The new RN-BSN curriculum was fully implemented this fall with 21 students enrolled and who have all completed the first course in the program. The new RN to BSN program curriculum was given approval by ACEN but will require a monitoring report to be submitted in June to assess the first year of curriculum. Ĵý CNA Program Report Fall 2014 Sarah Lino BSN, RN, Program Coordinator ______________________________________________________________________ GBC has offered CNA classes at all locations with varying schedules trying to accommodate as many students as possible: Fall 2014 Classes in Pahrump, Winnemucca, Elko, Ely and Battle Mountain 51 students Summer 2014 Classes in Ely, Pahrump, and Elko 38 students PROJECTIONS FOR SPRING 2015: 3 classes in Elko 2 during semester and one Christmas Break 2 in Pahrump 1 in Lovelock 1 in Winnemucca 1 in Ely Projection 111 students Program Issues: Elko Offers two classes per semester taught by Kandis Bockness and Sarah Crabtree. A Christmas break class is taught by Sharon Sutherland, and a summer break class is taught by Sarah Lino. Testing is being offered monthly in Elko Ely Jill DeSteunder has a late spring class scheduled. Jill has administered several state tests to summer students taught by Lynne Adams. Rocky Jones has completed Train the Trainer and is planning on testing Jills students in Ely. Winnemucca Summer course was cancelled due to low enrollment. Fall class has enrollment of 11. I would like to offer testing in Winnemucca, as we recruit additional faculty in the area. Battle Mountain Low enrollment for fall. The campus director and instructor would like to return to 1 class per year. Typical enrollment has been 6 students per class with only 5 in the fall class. Pahrump Trying to recruit an additional instructor for the area. Anticipating higher interest numbers with expansion of ADN program to Pahrump. Elena Maborang has spoken to an interested nurse. Waiting to hear back from her. Also planning to offer state testing in Pahrump with additional CNA instructor. Lovelock- Community has expressed need for one CNA class per year. The Director of Nursing, Miquel Simms, has a CNA instructor license. She is filling out the GBC part-time employee packet and planning on offering a late spring class. The hospital has agreed to provide a classroom and computer. We will need to supply a mannequin and basic supplies. Ĵý AAS in Radiology Technology Program Report Advisory Group Report Fall 2014 Mary Doucette, MS, CBRPA/RRA, R.T.(R)(M)(QM) ______________________________________________________________________ There are 5 second year students and 11 first year students. The five second year students are in clinical rotations at NNRH, Humboldt General Hospital in Winnemucca and Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon. The second year students are working on positioning and their favorite subject, Physics. Our new student representative is Brandy Dankowski. The RAD Group is working on fundraising for travel costs to the two conferences in Las Vegas on February 4-7, 2015. The conferences are the Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiology Technology(ACERT) and the new Nevada Society of Radiologic Technologists(NvSRT). The fundraiser is the Snowflake Festival selling glow sticks and other items. Please stop by and support the group if you are there on December 13th. ACERT will provide the students with different avenues of courses, especially in board review. It will allow the students to network with other students from across the country. Some of the students are thinking of entering the poster contest. The NvSRT conference will allow the students education in areas, such as, thoracic imaging, child abuse imaging, bone dexa, stress on the job, customer service, and radiation protection. It will allow the students to speak to professionals from Nevada. Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiology Technology (JRCERT) will be conducting a site visit for the accreditation process January 29th and 30th, 2015. The self-study was submitted in April 2014 and accepted. The radiology program first received accreditation status in 2011 for three years as a new program. If you have any questions regarding the accreditation process, please feel free to contact me at (775)753-2463 or by email at HYPERLINK "mailto:mary.doucette@gbcnv.edu" mary.doucette@gbcnv.edu Of the 2014 graduated students, 1 is working in Utah, 2 are working in Elko, 2 are working in Fallon, 2 are working Reno, 1 is going to MRI school and 1 is unknown.
