The information collected will be used to write the lecture capture policy. What constitutes conditions for review? A: If there is a complaint or a series of complaints from a faculty member or student(s). Review of quality or conduct. When it feels like there is a necessity. If the recording is there, it is a way to look at things. Administration does not look at the courses randomly. Should there be a formal complaint about the class first before viewing a recording? A: It happens so rarely. It has only happened 4 times in regards to faculty. It has to be brought to our attention that something regarding misconduct happened. Student threatens teacher, teacher threatens student. We have the legal right to review workplace materials. Ideas for the lecture capture policy: Committee members express the need for Faculty to be notified prior to administration viewing the recordings. The VP of Student Services will determine the appropriate people to view the videos. Record of who viewed the recording. The president has the final authority. If tape/lecture capture should be viewed together with faculty and administrators. Gives faculty member the opportunity the background. Invitation to view. Mike indicates it is best to solve things at a simple level first. Bob mentions the responsibility of facilitators to report FERPA directly to administration. When can faculty members delete lecture capture recordings? Faculty can delete and edit recordings at any time. Which level of administrator can ask for IAV tapes and lecture recordings? Specific list of people who can ask for viewing. IAV Recording Policy - Way to keep recordings, have students sign waivers to allow students to be recorded for all time. IAV department didnt want responsibility to keep recordings. Need to incorporate/update the IAV recording policy into the Lecture Capture recording policy. If the student is utilizing it appropriately, Lisa can add additional hours. If the request is approved it is the responsibility of the VPS and President to determine who will view the video and will keep a record of who views the video. Whenever possible, the faculty member and/or student(s) involved will receive notification about viewing the video. The VPS will contact the Distance Education department to obtain and secure a copy of the video. In the case of an IAV, the tapes are usually available for one week after the recorded session.
