Guests present: Jacob Park Jacob Park as a member of GBC Battle Born Veterans Club spoke to the committee about the exhibition tour: Always Lost: A Meditation on War. The memorial will be on exhibit at the GBC Art Gallery from November 10-26. The memorial wall will bring awareness to the community about the costs of war and honors those who have given their lives and those who have returned home. The reception will take place November 12 from 5:30 to 6:45 pm in the GBC Solarium and the GBC Theatre. The Battle Born Veterans Club has asked the ACE Committee for assistance in providing light refreshments and drinks for the reception. The ACE Committee unanimously agreed to support this event. After some discussion, Justine Stout and Angie de Braga offered to help Jacob in contacting bakeries in regards to deli trays, desserts and to possibly obtain either gift-in-kinds or direct donations from local businesses. Jacob also asked the ACE Committee to help with promotion. The event is being promoted on the ACE calendar of events, website, Facebook page and will be advertised at local plays happening before the event. Justine mentioned that security must be in place during the times the exhibit is open (two weeks). One professor has agreed to give his students extra credit is they sign up for a two hour block. Justine will be making this request at the next Faculty Senate Meeting. Justine discussed with the committee about possible dates for the next TED Talks event. It was agreed that having this event on a Wednesday or Thursday either the week before or during the exhibition tour would be ideal. The theme would be at least one talk veteran-related and possibly one on suicide prevention or if one exists about soldiers transitioning to civilian life. Justine also reminded the ACE Committee members of the potluck BBQ October 15 to celebrate opening the Veteran Resource Center on campus. Patty Fox gave the Argentum update. The committee is working on updating the submission form and setting rubrics for art and writing judging. The committee discussed ways of getting the information out and getting the attention of newcomers to submit to the Argentum. Angie has authorized the printing of the ACE mission statement onto the event calendars and the committee liked the format of the calendars and the wording of the mission statement. Angie stated the next Black and White Movie Night will be held Wednesday, October 29 from 7 to 9 pm at the GBC Theatre. The theme will be horror movies and the featured presentation will be Night of the Living Dead. Angie also informed the committee her and Jeannie Bailey are working together on a Jackpot grant to help with the Richter Uzur Duo costs in the spring. This concert will have an educational outreach component which involves a mini-concert to be held at NYTC to help inspire those children. Due to budget constraints they no longer have art or sports outlets. Frank Sawyer discussed The Last US Stagecoach Robbery that will be at the museum the last two weeks of October on Th, Fri, and Saturday evenings. It's an official Sesquicentennial Event and has been listed on GBC's NEH grant page.The playwright will be in attendance to do a book signing for her children book line during one of the showings. The Film Festival had no new report but a list of movies had been submitted to their committee members for review and there would be a new report at the next meeting.
