Approval of minutes: Action A motion was made and seconded to approve Faculty Senate Minutes from the April 18, 2014 meeting. There were 4 proxies recorded. The motion passed unanimously. senate chair report: Information Chair Reagan sent out the recommendations from the low yield committee for the Ag program. The AAS in Ag will be suspended and students will be on a two year teach out. There will be a committee formed for re-evaluating a different degree to meet the needs of the Ag students over the next year. A concern was raised about how the announcement was handled with the students. It seems that the announcement was made prior to students being notified. The process does need to be looked at for the future. The pattern of study for the AS and AA will still be in place. GBC will be looking at creating a Certificate program first and then, possibly, another AAS, different than what we currently have. Chair Reagan also sent out the results of the Presidential survey. Overall, the results were favorable. Chair Reagan passed the gavel over to Chair-Elect Steve Theriault. Tom presented Steve with a nice sage green tie to represent GBC at BOR meetings. Chair Elect Theriault graciously accepted the gift and then reflected on former Chair Reagans term and his late night emails. Chair Theriault presented Tom with a few mementos as the outgoing sheriff. Chair Theriault announced the results of the Chair-Elect election. Mary Doucette will be the Vice Chair for next academic year. Congratulations Mary. Frank Daniels has agreed to be the Faculty Senate Secretary, once again, for the next academic year. committee reports Academic Standards Written Report Adjunct Faculty Written Report Assessment No Report Budget & Facilities No Report Bylaws No Report Compensation & Benefits No Report Curriculum & Articulation No Report Department Chairs Verbal Report/Action Items Cindy Hyslop brought forward the action items for the committee. The science department has decided not to fill their vacant position in the fall. The search for the new instructor will begin in January 2015. The other action item is the upcoming vacancy in the Health Sciences department. Since Dr. Amber Donnelli has accepted the Dean position, Department Chairs has agreed that her position will be filled in the fall 2014. Beth Clifton moved to approve the items and Scott Gavorsky seconded. A concern was made that it is helpful if action item information is included in the packet. All were in favor, motion passes. Distance Education Verbal Report Lisa Frazier and Carrie Bruno reported on the E-Learning Task Force. Sheri Sanchez was thanked for her time and effort for her work on the math part of the task force. Sheri will be receiving a letter of commendation from the Co-chair of the E-Learning Task Force. The draft reports from the remedial math and English work group were recently presented to the Chancellor. The Chancellor felt that the reports were soft and he is asking for more data. The English draft report needs more data and more research. Once the reports have been given to the Chancellor and approved, Lisa will send them out to everyone. The second phase is the e-Ncore. This appears to be a collection of resources, modules and artifacts that faculty members from around the state can pull from. These resources are optional and not mandatory. Faculty members can use them at their discretion. The main topic of conversation is how those resources will be chosen. Lisa and Carrie are pushing for home grown resources that our faculty have produced. The committee is in initial stages of figuring out how those resources will be collected from around the state. Third party vendors have been attending the meetings and presenting information on resources they can provide. Lisa and Carrie are hoping that those resources will be complimentary resources to our own resources. Another item that is developing is a list of general education courses that will be the foundation of eN-core. There is a sub-committee working on the development of the list. The overall feel of the meetings is a little contentious. Lisa and Carrie remain hopeful that a shared vision will pull through. There was discussion about the selection of a publisher for content. The committee was thanked for their work.
