MISSION STATEMENT: Ĵý ENRICHES PEOPLES LIVES by providing STUDENT-CENTERED, post-secondary education to RURAL NEVADA. Educational, cultural and related economic needs of the multi-county service area are met through programs of university transfer, applied sciences and technology, business and industry partnerships, developmental education, community service and student support services in conjunction with certificates and associate and select baccalaureate degrees. FIVE YEAR OUTLOOK/STRATEGIC PLAN: In five years we hope we have a completed review, revision and implemented changes in GBC General Education Program while reflecting the mission. We, also, will have a program effectiveness and assessment plan in place. Year One-Educate, listen, gather data and develop General Education Program learner outcomes. Designed and implemented a faculty survey regarding GE. Made a commitment as a committee to attend the general orientation and present the general education portion. Completed an AA/AS grid review and will present it to Faculty Senate in the fall of 2013. Reviewed and approved new general education courses to be offered at GBC. Year Two-Educate, prelim mapping of courses, process, and develop the General Education Program, as well as, start assessment. Prelim mapping of courses and what general education outcomes they address. Completed an AA/AS grid review and voted to leave it the same. It was never presented to Faculty Senate. Reviewed General Education core requirements and suggested 3 credits be deleted from Social Sciences requirements. Year Three-Develop or redesign learner outcomes Determine outcomes in detail. Once outcomes are determined, need to decide on: All in All(infusion model) or Quasi Model(Communication and critical thinking need to be in all courses. Then other courses need to be for core/general education core). Course selection for each outcome should be determined by outcome groups facilitated by the GE committee with core area input and knowledge.
