Angie will be meeting with Jeannie Bailey (Grants Writer) to discuss a possible grant that would pay half the costs for the Richter-Uzur Duo concert in 2015, total costs $3,000. ACE would be obligated to pay $1500 which could be raised through ticket sales. Richter Uzur has an educational outreach piece of their performances, engaging with the communities they perform in. Brad Richter has a non-profit that works with at-risk youth. Angie made contact with the principal for Nevada Youth Training Center; he was very interested in having the performers do a workshop with his students as their school seems to be forgotten most of the time. Two of the faculty members at the school have shown interest now in having guitar lessons for the boys there. Gail Rappa mentioned possibly looking at local music stores (5J) to donate guitars to the school. Gail also added how well music programs do with at-risk youth. Karen Kimber made the Argentum report to include that the College is providing funds to pay for printed copies. With the current submission deadline of March 17, the Argentum would be ready for distribution the beginning of May and in time for the reception. Submissions are still significantly lower than a year ago but a new marketing push will begin with the news of a printed version of the Argentum. The committee discussed possible avenues of publicity to include Facebook, a notice on Webcampus, etc. Karen indicated the Argentum Committee is looking for another judge of the submissions and Angie de Braga expressed an interest in being a judge. Gail Rappa suggested if ACE could solidify dates of events, possibly printing an ACE calendar. Everyone agreed this is a good idea but dates may be hard to pin down and many times presentation may be spontaneous (Temple Grandin). Gail Rappa discussed the possibility of partnering with Western Folklife Center (WFC) for visiting artists programs. Gail worked with WFC during Cowboy Poetry week where Valentin Yotkov taught his famous jewelry technique to a sold out class. These classes would allow for programs all year long and generate revenue for ACE. The talks are still in the preliminary stage but Gail wanted to bring this possibility to the committee. Justine Stout has a TED talk that she wants to show at the next TED talk event. The committee agreed April 9th would be the date of the next TED Talk Event. This coincides with empowerment week and going with our diversity theme, Justine suggested a talk about a young lesbian who discusses coming out. Angie suggested getting administrations approval for the talk prior to the showing. She would be emailing Lynn and Mark along with the link of the talk for their approval. Justine was going to follow up with the committee via email in regards to other TED Talks to show at this event Justine also reported on how successful the Film Festival, it was the best turnout ever! Having the sponsors and their food at each viewing of the movie was great. Russ Minter will be looking into either showing Oscar short films before every movie or having a night of nothing but Oscar Short Films next year. Two of the films from this years film festival were donated to the library and are available for check-out. The evaluations from the movies were all very good. Gail Rappa added she had been approached by the Pioneer Arts Center and some of the performances may be interested in doing a performance in Elko as it is an easy stop when traveling from Salt Lake City to Reno. More to come. The next meeting date is scheduled for April 1, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m. MYoq} i * , > ?
