Gail Rappa excused from meeting due to illness. Guests present: Russ and Lora Minter Russ Minter informed the committee, after the $600 in sponsorships for the GBC Film Festival, the account is only short $50, which will easily be made in ticket sales at the four movies. Drinks will also be available for sale at the movies to help increase revenue flow for next years event. Justine Stout had sent out an email to all of GBC and had posted information on the Facebook page in regards to the Film Festival. Frank Sawyer also mentioned the information was on the GBC ACE webpage. Angie de Braga will make sure evaluations are available for moviegoers to fill out. These evaluations provide necessary feedback to be implemented in the next years grant writing. Ami Rogers had asked if sign-in sheets could be provided as she is providing extra credit to her students who attend the Film Festival. Russ also mentioned he was able to arrange for a Skype Q&A with the director of the film Antarctica, A Year on Ice after the movie was shown. Angie suggested maybe doing a Q&A session after every movie; Russ indicated those usually have low-participation rates as people are usually ready to leave after the movie ends. Lora Minter gave an update on Argentums progress. The Argentum committee members were to hold a meeting the next day to discuss advertising distribution, and other matters. Submissions up to this point have been lower in numbers compared to previous years. The committee brainstormed about options to be able to have a printed issue of the Argentum this year, it had been determined earlier that the funds were not available and only a digital version of Argentum would be published this year. Angie was going to make another appeal to Administration in this regard. If not, Gail had suggested at a previous meeting to have small, accordion pamphlets with some art and excerpts from written submissions to be on each flap of the accordion. This would be an inexpensive way of displaying the submissions and giving people the information on accessibility to the digital copy. The committee did discuss various means of fundraising for ACE and the Argentum in particular. Angie reported the Temple Grandin, movie, TED talk, and lecture were very successful. The evaluations from attendees were ranked high! Frank Sawyer suggested the committee should send thank you notes or even buy little baskets to show our appreciation to the speakers and/or performers who come to our campus. Angie state the OToole lecture was very well done as well and it is a great thing to have this collaboration with the Western Folklife Center during Cowboy Poetry Week. Discussion amongst the committee members began about possible 2015 performances for ACE. We could possibly get some grant monies to be used towards having Richter Uzur perform; however, the grant would only cover half of the costs of bringing them to GBC. That would leave the ACE committee the responsibility of raising $1500. The Ririe Woodbury Dance Company was also interested in returning to GBC but the grant-writer indicated there would be no grant help available. The committee brainstormed about possible partnerships to bring these performances to Elko next year. Ultimately, it was decided to wait and see what possible funding and grant opportunities the college would be able to provide the committee for the next year.
