General Statement Ĵý and its faculty have the expectation that all classes, delivered by any modality, will have the same appropriate outcomes and standards of content, rigor, and quality as generally expected for all classes of a given discipline and level of instruction. Classes delivered through the online (Internet) environment must meet these same expectations. It is the responsibility of the faculty members and departments delivering the content of the discipline to assure that appropriate standards for individual classes are maintained at all times and by all instructors. All GBC courses must have a syllabus containing the standard minimum required information that is to be available to students on or before the first scheduled day of class. Syllabus requirements are provided at:  HYPERLINK "http://www.gbcnv.edu/syllabus/" http://www.gbcnv.edu/syllabus/ In addition to the standard requirements for all courses, the following are requirements and recommendations for all online classes: Online Syllabus Requirements: Syllabus additions of: All GBC online courses must have their initial point of origin in the current GBC learning management system (Canvas, as of July 1, 2012). Use of tools for instructor contact. Examples consisting of but not limited to are: -Email -Discussion board -LiveNet A statement of reasonable instructor response times for grading, commentary, and return of required student work by the instructor. Timelines will be established by departments. Requirements of online class to include: A grade book that is aligned with syllabus and accessible to students. A course layout and navigation is organized and structured such that: Articulation with syllabus is clear. Alignment of learner objectives and measurement is clear. Communication with students at start of semester. Welcome by instructor. Introductory discussion posts. Course introduction. Instructor is present throughout the semester - communicate with entire class throughout the semester. Weekly email or post from instructor. Periodic announcements alerting students to important course events/timelines. Recommendations: Include introductory discussion posts at the start of the semester. Use a wide variety of media resources to meet various learning styles. Students have the opportunity to practice before final assessment (assignments, quizzes, discussions, case studies, etc.) Provide a library link. Provide an Academic Success Center link. All online class syllabi will be submitted as any other syllabus through appropriate departments for collection and archiving. The peer review process in place through the current evaluation system will serve as the monitor. Adjunct instructor alignment with the online requirements will be monitored at the department level as with any course.
