Faculty Overload Sub-Committee Concerns of the plan are: Maximum of nine credits of over load per semester is too much. Large amounts of overload built into the system means less time with students and a lower quality product. Departments that are habitually in overload should look at recommending new positions for their areas. Highlights of the policy: The revised policy is based upon per semester workload. The process accommodates for extended and early and late starting semester courses. The proposal takes the difficulty out of scheduling online courses for full-time faculty. Chairs voted and approved the item. The item will be forwarded to Faculty Senate for approval. Amber Donnelli will present the item at the Faculty Senate meeting on February 24. Interactive Video Course Scheduling Center Directors will be on campus February 15 and 16. Chairs were invited to participate in the scheduling process for interactive video courses. Faculty Senate Container/Committees Review Last month department chairs voted to approve the one vote per container restructure proposal. Following that meeting the sub-committee received several comments. Most comments were directed at the large size of some of the proposed containers. The sub-committee discussed several scenarios and decided to add a third option. The third option provides containers with more than ten members, two votes and containers with less than ten members, one vote. The percentages remain similar to previous options. After much discussion chairs voted and approved the proposed one vote per container except for containers withmore than ten members and they will receive two votes. Sarah Negrete will present the item as an action item at the February 24 Faculty Senate meeting. Vision of Programs/Departments Faculty Positions An instructor position wish list was discussed. Departments requested the following positions to be added to a wish list for future consideration. Career and Technical Winnemucca Electrical Technology Elko English/25% advising and 75% teaching through interactive video Ely Fine Arts instructor Elko Industrial Millwright Technology Elko Information Specialist Elko Instrumentation Technology Elko Math Elko Music/Theater Elko Political Science/History Elko Psychology/Sociology/60% Elko Welding Technology Elko Adjunct Faculty Evaluations Departments recently received the adjunct faculty evaluation tracking list. Its imperative for departments to review. Adjunct instructors that are due to receive an evaluation are noted on the tracking list. It is the responsibility of departments to guarantee that adjunct instructors receive an evaluation. Student Advising Program clarification and improved communication between departments and centers be initiated to assist with the advisement of students. Departments and programs are all different and each has their own expectations. Program changes are not always relayed to center staff. It is important that centers are aware of student course needs; without this information courses may not be scheduled appropriately. Advisor assignments are initiated by Admissions and Records. It is ultimately the responsibility of the students to contact their assigned advisor. However, faculty do have access to their advisor list in Peoplesoft. Students, faculty, and staff can request an advisor change. Students can view their advisor assignment in their student center. Center staff will assist students with locating and enrolling in courses. Students will be provided with their advisor contact information.
