Proposed GBC Mission Statement Chairs approved the proposed mission statement and the item will be presented at the next Faculty Senate meeting for their approval. The proposed mission statement is as follows: Ĵý enriches peoples lives by providing student-centered, post-secondary education to rural Nevada. Educational, cultural, and related economic needs of the multicounty service area are met through programs of university transfer, applied science and technology, business and industry partnerships, developmental education, community service, and student support services in conjunction with certificates and associate and select baccalaureate degrees. Proposed Institutional Core Themes Chairs approved the proposed institutional core themes. The next step will be for Faculty Senate to approve the themes. The proposed themes are: Theme 1: Providing Student Enrichment Theme 2: Building Partnerships Theme 3: Serving Rural Nevada Syllabi on GBC Website Chairs approved to recommend that all syllabi be transferred to the GBC intranet rather than the internet. The item will be presented at the October Faculty Senate meeting. General Education Guidelines and Grid The curriculum and articulation committee has been requested to review the general education grid, since Board of Regents has changed the system wide general education requirements. A handout was distributed for chairs to use as a guideline. Before preceding with the review the committee is requesting that Department Chairs and Faculty Senate be informed of the request and seeks input. All comments can be directed to Mary Doucette. Faculty Overload Sub-Committee Update The committee has met and is discussing several scenarios. Research on the other community colleges in the NSHE system is being gathered. Once the information is collected it will then be compared to GBCs policy. Faculty Senate Container Reorganization Sub-Committee Update Executive committee tasked department chairs with evaluating the organization of senate. Executive committee also asked chairs to look at the structure of the senate committees. It is the recommendation of Department Chairs that one committee be created that includes representation from members of senate. It is also their recommendation that an ad hoc sub-committee be formed of senate members to assist department chairs with evaluating the organization (containers) of senate and the committees. Volunteers for the committee will be requested when the topic is discussed at the next senate meeting. Interactive Video Recordings Sub-Committee Update Chairs approved supporting the Interactive Video Recording Committees recommendations. We would like them to continue their work using their recommendations to guide them. The original recording policy should be observed, which means classes will be recorded but distributed only for technical backup. Recordings will not be given to students and only registered students will be allowed to view the recordings at a GBC facility; For classes where the instructor wishes to retain their class recording or if the recording will be used for other purposes such as on-line classes, appropriate release forms should be completed. Further specifics for these and other situations will be developed.
