General Education Requirements review: A. Reviewed the feedback from Faculty Senate. We believe our goal is to review the minimum credits for general education requirements. We had an in depth discussion and feel we are still gathering information. Mary is meeting with Linda Uhlenkodtt to gather information on other colleges general education requirement in the state. B. A general overview of the feedback we received so far is: (*Please note these are short summaries as examples, not direct quotes.*) 1. Supports keeping technology 3 requirement, but splitting up Social Science (6 credits) and Humanities/Fine Art (3credits). This is in line with the new NSHE requirements and would help with the 60/120 requirements. 2. Deleting INT courses or to make them more content courses. Also, INT courses need to be online to help the online bachelor degree students. Example: BSN is a totally online degree. 3. Must make sure we, as a community college, keep academic integrity. 4. Should make the AS a good choice for students and make it more defined from the AA degree. C. After discussion it was decided we need to bring this back to Department Chairs to ask them to meet with their respective departments and answer the following: 1. What do they feel the minimum general education requirements should be? Please keep in mind the college as a whole, as well as, their departments. Keep in mind the 60/120 requirements some degrees are struggling with. 2. What would they recommend regarding the INT courses? Should they be kept? Should content INT be more beneficial to certain degrees? 3. Are they happy with the General Education grid as it is? D.
