Adjunct Reps Chair Negrete reminded the Senate to bring nominations for reps to Gaye or bring them to Senate next month. Two representatives will need to be chosen. Elect New Senate Secretary - Chair Negrete called for nominations for Senate Secretary. Jessica Russell volunteered. A motion was made and seconded to approve Jessica as the Faculty Senate Secretary. All were in favor. No one opposed. Proposed Bylaws Change - Chair Negrete reviewed the proposed bylaws change and this involves the Adjunct Committee. Faculty that have been assigned to this committee havent met their committee obligation because the committee hasnt been meeting. The item has been brought to Senate as a bylaws change to eliminate the committee from the standing committees. Chair Negrete asked the Senate if they wanted to think about it and make a decision at a later date and possibly re-purpose the committee. Discussion was held. The Senate agreed to table the item and discuss again next month. Committee Changes - The Bylaws Committee has been in place as a standing committee and is an ad hoc committee. There are times when there isnt anything happening regarding bylaws or the work has been completed. The Executive Committee made the decision to take the committee off of the committee list, as it is, and it will be used as needed. The Professional Enrichment committee and the I.C.E. committee have been acting as standing/ad hoc committees. It has been requested of those committees to either dissolve or to complete the necessary paper work to become a non-senate committee. The I.C.E. committee has already submitted their paperwork to be classified as a non-senate committee. committee reports Academic Standards No Report Adjunct Faculty No Report Assessment No Report Budget & Facilities No Report Bylaws No Report Compensation & Benefits No Report Curriculum & Articulation No Report Department Chairs Written/Verbal Report Bonnie Hofland reminded the Senate that orientation is this Saturday and every department needs to be represented. Pat reviewed the updated policy. This involves all NSHE vehicles. All NSHE vehicles are now insured through the state insurance group. State law says that you can no longer use a cell phone while driving unless it is hands free. You must comply with the rules. There is an added component that anyone that drives for a large percentage for their job must complete an NSHE and state approved driving training. If you have an accident in a state vehicle or numerous moving violations, you will have to take the test, as well. Anyone checking out a vehicle will have to sign a form stating that you will comply with the policy. You will only need to sign the form once for every time your license is renewed. A database has been set up to track the forms that are on file. You can no longer have your support person pick up the keys for the vehicle or gas card. You must sign for the car in person. INFORMATION A question was asked about changing the time of Senate. The Senate agreed that Friday mornings would be a better time as long as IAV classrooms were available at the Centers. Chair Negrete will look into this for next semester.
