PRESENT: Dr. Kris Miller, Mary Doucette, Dr. Puccinelli, Cherie Jaques, Sharon Sutherland, Amber Donnelli, Tamara Gailey, Heidi Johnson, Dianna Byers, Dr. Mary Ray Budget Review: A. Dianna Byers provided a handout of the HSHS budget B. Discussion was held on upcoming expenses and current lab fees. C. Discussion was held on how we could get a new copier. Mary Ray is going to check to see if there are monies available for this purchase from the Human Services grant. D. Faculty was requested to fill out paperwork for travel expenses, so these can be accounted for during the semester. 1. Mary and Cherie will be traveling to LasVegas for the ACERT meeting. These expenses will not be coming out of the HSHS budget(approved for Professional development). 2. Nursing faculty will be attending SNA in April. 3. Radiology faculty will need travel for clinical site visits. PROGRAM UPDATES: AAS Radiology Technology Report: There are currently, 10 2nd year students and 14 1st year students. We will accept 12 students for next fall. We are allowed a total of 26 at this time. We are currently updating all our publications online and in print. This should be completed by February 15, 2011. I am looking at either an adjunct or student to develop our virtual radiology software and write a How To pamphlet for the students. We have received changes from the ARRT regarding the board registry examination for 2012 this week. We are reviewing this and will need to adjust our curriculum to the changes. Some of the changes are: 1. Addition of a more complex digital imaging process. 2. Deletion of some of the darkroom requirements. 3. Changes in competency requirements, especially in fluoroscopy and skulls. Accreditation Update: 1. We have received our letter stating the site visitors findings. 2. We have to respond by January 24th, 2011. I am asking for a 2 week extension. 3. Once we respond and they accept, the application will be placed before the JRCERT board in April. We will receive notification in May. We have had notice from Meridan Uniforms they are discontinuing our color. The colors we have to choose from are: White, Ceil Blue, Caribbean Blue and Hunter Green. I am going to let the students vote. I am voting for Hunter Green, since GBC color is Green and Gold. Human Services Report: Human Services currently has 140 students This semester, Mary Ray will receive assistance from two other instructors: Wendy Charlebois and Cathy McAdoo. Mary Ray has sent in the self study for the Accreditation process. They accrediting body has 45 days to review and ask for additional information or forward the self study on in the process. Certified Nursing Assistant(CNA): At Elko campus a Christmas Break class with 14 students was just completed. The class was held from Dec. 27- Jan 14. Fourteen students completed the course. Instructor Jo The semester CNA class at the Elko campus starts Jan. 25. Instructor Jo A late spring 3 week class is scheduled to be taught by Sharon Sutherland There might be an evening class later in the semester depending on Carol Morales sechedule Battle Mountain held a Christmas break class taught by Suzanne Rowen Winnemucca also held a Christmas break class taught by Jennifer Fernandez Jennifer is scheduled to teach a spring semester class in Winnemucca also Pahrump has just completed the two fall classes taught by McMickens and MaBorang both instructors are also teaching spring classes. Ely finished a fall class and is scheduled for another class from May thru June. Taught by Christy Welch. 289 students completed CNA for the year 2010 NSBN testing continues at the Elko campus the first Friday of each month. Ely tests when ever they have candidates Pahrump wants testing but it is very difficult to get someone down there to test. Jo cannot travel to Pahrump this semester while she teaches. Eventually, Pahrump can do their own testing when their instructors have more experience and they can test each others students. Emergency Medical Services(EMS): Currently, there are four(4) CPR classes scheduled for the semester. The first one starts January 28, 2011. Karen Mowrey is instructing a Intermediate EMS class starting February 1, 2011 and it is full. Rosanna is instructing an EMS basic class. This will be the first time IAV has been used for this class; to start 1/22/11. Nursing: Associate Degree Nursing (RN-AAS) Currently 21 2nd year and 16 1st year nursing students. About one-half of 2nd year group have indicated an interest in continuing this fall in the BSN Program. In general, the HESI results for both groups were good and in keeping with favorable results on national licensing examination. There are several 1st/2nd year nursing students who have 3 or more non-nursing courses to complete. Cannot sit for licensing examination until all program requirements are complete and verified by State Board. Points on admission scoring sheet related to prerequisite courses have been changed in order to give those who have completed more non-nursing courses a higher score than those who have completed fewer courses. Curriculum has been changed. Those applying for Fall 2012 will not be required to complete nutrition and human development courses. This change will be consistent with changes made at TMCC, WNC and CSN. Baccalaureate Nursing Program (RN-BSN) Currently there are 32 students. Had one RN graduate December 2010; potentially 8 graduating between May and December 2011. Given the growing number of individuals interested in the BSN Program, it will be important that all non-nursing courses that are part of the curriculum be offered in an online format point during the 4 semester long program. Without exception, all BSN students are employed full-time and working shifts. Other Nursing faculty workload is very high. Two individuals filling full-time nursing faculty positions resigned last May and December. Advertising for one of these positions (tenured track) will begin this week. Part of clinical staffing needs is being filled by adjunct faculty who will be completing her masters degree in the next several months. Strategic Plan: Dean Miller requested all programs and faculty to review their specific strategic plan. She would like to talk to each program regarding the strategic plan and their respective future goals. Announcements: -Chamber of Commerce Event-2/17/11-(Kris) Dean Miller announced there will be an After Business Hours Event sponsored by GBC, February 17, 2011 at 5:30pm. Faculty and staff should think about some ideas to demonstrate what we do at GBC HSHS. SNO will be invited to participate. Ideas are to be sent to Kris(Dean Miller) by February 1, 2011. -Input is welcome for the department agendas -RN tenure position was approved at department chairs and is awaiting Faculty Senate approval. -iNtegrat update(more at next meeting) -Overload Rate increasing Next Department Meeting: February 10, 2011 at 9am. Dr. Mike McFarlane will be speaking. This will be a 2 hour meeting, so please plan accordingly. Respectfully submitted: Mary Doucette .@GHXYfgp2 ?
