If this is a GenEd class, include the appropriate GenEd objectives. In the boxes below, summarize the methods used to assess course outcomes during the last year. Include the criterion youll use to judge whether or not students have achieved the expected outcome. In the boxes below, summarize the results of your assessment activities during the last year. Include your judgement as to whether or not the criterion for student achievement has been met.In the boxes below, summarize how you plan to use the results to improve student learning.Outcome #1 (Gen Ed): Demonstrate an understanding of American constitutions and institutions and their development Assessment Measure: Final Exam Constitution Quiz Criterion for achievement: 66% of students achieve a 70% or better Results: 73% of students (42/57) who attempted this quiz achieved 70% or better on it. Average: 77% Low score: 20% (10/50) High score: 100% (50/50) Criterion Met: Yes Action Plan: This assessment was based on a quiz given with the final exam. Overall, most students did well enough to pass the quiz, but I believe I could help them do better in the future. In the future, I will help them improve by giving them a better study guide and opportunities to take practice quizzes. Those who struggled did so mainly it seems because they have yet to develop effective collegiate level study habits. Outcomes #2 (Gen Ed): Demonstrate understanding of processes of social stratification and inequality in American society Assessment Measure: Weekly Primary Source Reading Assignments Criterion for achievement: 66% of students achieve a 70% or better Results: 81% of students (61/75) who attempted these assignments achieved 70% or better on average for each assignment. Average: 79% Low score: 47.5% High score: 99% Criterion Met: YesAction Plan: This assignment was based on written weekly responses to primary source readings, many of which detailed the process of inequality and social stratification in American society. The students who did not meet the criteria failed primarily because they did not complete the full assignments. Overall, students who completed the assignments fully demonstrated an understanding of inequality in American society and how it came to be. In the future, I plan to redesign this assessment to be focused on short answer questions on the midterm and/or final to ensure higher completion rates to get better data. Redesigning this assessment will also help me focus my measurement more directly on the stated objective. Outcome #3 (Gen Ed): Demonstrate knowledge of the methods used to study American society Assessment Measure: Weekly Primary Source Reading Assignments Criterion for achievement: 66% of students achieve a 70% or better Results: 81% of students (61/75) who attempted these assignments achieved 70% or better on average for each assignment. Average: 79% Low score: 47.5% High score: 99% Criterion Met: YesAction Plan: Once again, the students who failed to meet the criteria did so because they did not complete the full assignments. Overall, those who completed the assignments in full demonstrated an understanding of the methods used to study American society. I do not think it is necessary to redesign this assessment.
