If this is a GenEd class, include the appropriate GenEd objectives. In the boxes below, summarize the methods used to assess course outcomes during the last year. Include the criterion youll use to judge whether or not students have achieved the expected outcome. In the boxes below, summarize the results of your assessment activities during the last year. Include your judgement as to whether or not the criterion for student achievement has been met.In the boxes below, please reflect on this outcomes results and summarize how you plan to use the results to improve student learning.Outcome #1: Describe and solve problems involving the identification and functions of examples of the 4 main tissue types Assessment Measure: Exam 1 average scores Lab practical 1 average scores Criterion for achievement: 70% Class averageResults: Exam 1: Ave = 79% High = 98% Low = 52% Practical 1: Ave = 84% High = 100% Low =52% Criterion Met: Yes1. Results Analysis: I moved all exams to an online format in Canvas and used in class lecture time for exam reviews. The students did well overall and provide positive feedback. 2. Action Plan: No action required. Outcome #2: Describe and solve problems involving the structures and functions of the integumentary system. Assessment Measure: Exam 2 average scores Lab practical 1 average scores Criterion for achievement: 70% Class averageResults: Exam 2: Ave = 79% High = 100% Low = 46% Practical 1: Ave = 84% High = 100% Low =52% Criterion Met: Yes 1. Results Analysis: Students were still performing well at this point in the semester. 2. Action Plan: No action required. Outcome #3: Describe and solve problems involving the structures and functions of the Skeletal system.Assessment Measure: Exam 2 average scores Lab practical 2 average scores Criterion for achievement: 70% Class averageResults: Exam 2: Ave = 79% High = 100% Low = 46% Practical 2: Ave = 74% High = 106% Low= 22% Criterion Met: Yes1. Results Analysis: The students were still doing well overall in the lecture portion of the class. We began covering more in-depth material in lab (skeletal system, joints). Students seemed to struggle with the amount of work required to learn this material as well as associated vocabulary. 2. Action Plan: No action required. Outcome #4: Describe and solve problems involving the structures and functions of the muscular systemAssessment Measure: Exam 3 average scores Lab practical 3 average scores Criterion for achievement: 70% Class averageResults: Exam 3: Ave = 72% High = 96% Low= 42% Practical 3: Ave = 90% High = 120% Low = 38% Criterion Met: Yes1. Results Analysis: Students performed well in both lecture and lab. 2. Action Plan: No action required. Outcome #5: Describe and solve problems involving the structures and functions of the nervous system.Assessment Measure: Exam 4 average scores Lab practical 4 average scores Criterion for achievement: 70% Class averageResults: Exam 4: Ave = 67% High = 96% Low= 0% Practical 4: Ave = 84% High = 100% Low= 38% Criterion Met: No (See Results Analysis)1. Results Analysis: One student did not take exam 4, skewing the data. Without their score of 0%, the class average would have been a 70% (Criterion Met). Although still a lower average than all other exams. This portion of lecture also included some difficult material (nervous tissue, brain and cranial nerves and nervous system). The students seemed worn out as this was their final exam. 2. Action Plan: No action required. Outcome #6: Students will show proficiency in the use of scientific terminology.Assessment Measure: Overall lecture average Overall lab average Criterion for achievement: 70% Class averageResults: Lecture: Ave = 74.4% High = 95.5% Low= 48% Lab: Ave = 83.4% High = 106.6% Low= 43.15% Criterion Met: Yes1. Results Analysis: Overall the course was successful. 2. Action Plan: No action required. Notes: This was my first time teaching as a full time instructor. This course was also difficult for me because I have not had any courses relating to the themes of lecture and lab in a long time. I found it helpful to be very transparent with the students and let them know we are working as a team. I often asked for their opinion and feedback to help guide the course positively. I struggled myself with the amount of material presented in this course. I also have a tendency to speak rapidly. I worked on this by frequently pausing and asking questions to the students. I plan to use the Summer educating myself and developing more interactive lectures so that I can feel confident in lecture. I will also familiarize myself more with the lab, lab equipment and anatomical models used for this course. The students appreciated the added exam reviews along with a specific study guide I provided with each exam. Under the comment section of my student evaluations, students stated that they would have appreciated homework with this course. This is something we discussed as a class. The homework was wanted as an additional way to study or to take off the weight of the lecture and lab grade, allowing for an overall better score. I will talk with the Head of the Science Department to see if adding homework would be beneficial for the students in the future. Overall, the course went very well. The Learning Outcomes included major systems of the human body. I would, in the future, like to complete the cat or fetal pig dissection. Improvements for this course: The lab sections are scheduled before the lecture during the day. Because of this, some major themes in this course were introduced in lab, without having the background that is covered in lecture. Some students stated that they would prefer to learn about the themes in lecture, prior to the more hands on lab. For next Fall, I plan to include a short introduction of the next topic in my lectures if the theme for lab falls prior to the lecture portion of that theme.
